哈里森·埃文斯·索尔兹伯里 (Harrison E. Salisbury )，一九零八年十一月生于美国明尼苏达州明尼阿波利斯市，一九二五年中学毕业后，曾就读于明尼苏达大学，主修化学，后退学，从事新闻记者工作。一九三零年至一九四八年，担任合众国际社记者、编辑；一九四九年三月，出版《纽约时报》莫斯科常驻记者，达五年之久。一九六一年以后，历任《纽约时报》编辑、助理副总编辑、副总编辑等职。二次世界大战曾深入前线，遍访苏联广大地区，著有《列宁格勒被困九百天》等作品，闻名于世。 索尔兹伯里曾获国际普利策新闻奖等奖励及许多大学的名誉博士学位，曾任美国文学艺术学会主席、全美作家协会主席。一九七二年后，曾五次访华。一九九三年五月病逝。
